Final Words

Davies led the group until his retirement in 1984, when he was succeeded by Wyn Price, and continued his work as a data consultant. Davies provided consultancy to financial institutions and advised suppliers and users of secure systems of many kinds, for example mobile telephony and direct broadcast satellite television. Davies also pursued his interest in cryptography as a hobby with research on Second World War cipher machines and published a number of articles on the topic.

The other members of the group were Bernard Chorley, Graeme Parkin, Chez Ciechanowicz and Michael Lewis.

Davies' publication relating to the computer security include “Security for computer networks: an introduction to data security in teleprocessing and electronic funds transfer” with W L Price in 1984. Other materials include “Selected papers in cryptography and data security” with W L Price in 1980, “An evaluation of public key cryptosystems” with W L Price and G I Parkin in 1979, “The application of digital signatures based on public key cryptosystems” in 1980 and “Digital signatures-an update” in 1984, both with W L Price. There are many more materials from Davies which are not mentioned here.
