Thomas( in charge of the Ace Test Assembly project) recruited Ted Newman and David Clayden who were electronics expertise. The small Electronics Section in the Radio Division which they joined was established as a separate unit in NPL, known as TRON on April 1948 and led by FM Colebrook who took an immediate and positive interest in ACE.
G G Alway and Donald Davies joined the ACE group in Mathematics Division on 18th August and 1st September 1947 respectively. At the same time the work on the Test Assembly was ceased.Turing also left getting frustrated by the lack of progress in the project.
This eventually led to the development of the Pilot ACE Computer by the joint effort of the Mathematics and Electronics Section of NPL, which successfully ran it's first simple program on May 1950.
